The power of a verbal thank you is purposeful in both positive and negative communications. It is important to understand the benefit of showing gratitude in both situations. In a negative and conflict situation, a simple thank you will shut down the conflict and give the parties time to cognitively process the situation, information and formulate a response that creates value, growth and opportunity. In a positive situation, a thank you creates goodwill. In both situations the value of genuinely expressing appreciation offers all parties involved an opportunity to support a culture of acceptance, trust, communications, and development. It requires only you to initiate the positive experience and ultimately provides lasting and positive relations and work cultures.
